Only in the 1930’s, these dogs appeared in Europe and in the 1960’s, they were imported to the USA. The American Kennel Club recognized this breed in 1969. Nowadays, these creatures are very popular for shows and as family companions.

The ancestors of these dogs were brought from Tibet in the 17th century and crossbred with the Tibetan Lhasa Apso and the Pekingese. This beautiful and refined breed became a favorite of the Chinese court and wasn’t imported to other countries. Imperial puppy shih tzu from the rescues look very nice in the photos.
